A poem I wrote for mothers, deeply inspired by my mother
A Love Letter to You
my mother,
and her mother
and her mother
and her mother
each of 'her' exists within me
bright and
vivid like the sun and the stars
and,
the highest form of woman,
know that i see the God in you.
you see
the truth is,
the safest place i ever felt
was in your womb
for you are home
and,
the first human
to ever love i,
fully
and,
without benefit
know that i,
will forever be
without any understanding of
what i did to deserve you
for God to have chosen me
to enter into this world through you
for you to love me
unconditionally,
even when you ache?
the most divine i've ever known
and,
my definition of
a dream woman
and,
the standard
for the type of mother
i dream to be
for you are,
the supreme motif
of motherhood
in its highest form
a woman who
rose like the light of the sun every morning
even amidst the darkness of the moon
whose love
has given me poetry
and,
is a reflection of the
Queens who have come before her
i know this because
my mother,
and her mother
and her mother
and her mother
each of 'her' exists within me
for indeed,
they are the parts
of myself,
of which,
i love the most.
