7 Powerful Bible Verses to Combat Worry & Anxiety

The Top Bible Verses to Remind Us That God’s Protection is Supreme

With the global spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), it’s marked a global response unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my lifetime — panic asserted and maximized at some of the highest levels; social distancing for weeks; institutions such as the NBA, NHL and MLB suspended indefinitely; unprecedented travel restrictions; corporations and small businesses closing their doors; churches and schools going online; standard human acts (hugs, kisses and handshakes) that make us all who we are, now violate a new code of conduct in this new reality we are painfully living in. This new world order … this new paradigm shift towards anxiety and fear, has shackled us all into a rare and vulnerable space of uncertainty, with notions of Darwin’s evolution theory ‘survival of the fittest’ on full display.

But, I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask — Is our faith, too, on full display? Daily we are faced with the decision to trust God or this world, and many of us have chosen the latter. It is my thought that perhaps it is “such a time as this ” that as believers, we are embarking upon this situation to rise in full power of our faith, serving as an example of what strength and leadership looks like in the midst of the storm? Perhaps ‘this’ is our time?

With the time Corona has given us all, ask yourself if you have chosen to worship fear, or have you chosen to worship the God of peace? I personally had an ah-ha moment last week in which I decided to believe in the truth and power of God’s word, in knowing that this too shall pass.

A calm mind is the ultimate weapon — to see which verses I’m standing on, take a look at my top seven picks below:

God Commands Us to Be Strong Because He Is With Us

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

God Tells Us to Be Anxious for Nothing, and to Think Only the Creme de le Creme

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Philippians 4:6-8

Calamity Will Not Come Near, God’s Angels Are Watching Over You

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you make the Most High your dwelling-- even the LORD, who is my refuge-- 10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways." Psalm 91:1-10

How Big Is Your Faith?

24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” 26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. 27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him.” Matthew 8:24-27

Fear is Not of God

10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes I will help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

We Serve a God That is the Author of Peace

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
